Great hat but error in the pattern. If you keep doing the knit stitch and don’t do a second reverse it ends up being a pearl stitch from the last roll up to the crown. Picture looks like knit which I like better.

      Hi Pat,
Thank you for your comment. Actually, the pattern is quite literal without an error. Perhaps I should have named the pattern the “Surprise Double Roll Storm Hat”. The double roll happens as a surprise when working in the round towards the crown of the hat(patience may be required as one has to knit in the round for awhile after the reverse before the second roll happens all on its own!). So rest assured, if you attempt to make this hat again, that the directions have NO error and has only ONE reverse of direction. I am pleased you are happy with the hat! Happy Knitting! Annie

  2. Katie

This hat is so cute! I was wanting to knit a rolled hat and thankfully found your pattern to save me the trial and error of figuring this out. Excited about how it “surprises”. Thank you!

    • Annie

Hi Katie, I am so pleased you were patient for the surprise double-roll that happens all on its own! Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a year ahead filled with great knitting projects.

This hat is so pretty! I just bought the pattern on revelry and have started it in small. CO of 72 stitches. Do I follow the pattern exactly the same from there on?

    Thank you!
    El

    • Annie

Yes with the exception of the decrease. You can knit the number of inches to crown provided but your decrease numbers will be different because of fewer sts. at the start.

  4. Sue

Can you knit this on straight needles?

    • Annie

This pattern is a circular knit pattern. One would have to do a total redesign to figure out how to accomplish these same surprise double rolls if possible. Sorry, pattern is not available for straight needles.

  5. Julie Polwarth

Hello, I saw your pattern on Ravelry and plan to knit the hat. In Ravelry it says the recommended yarn is Bulky and you suggest using a 3-ply yarn. Are bulky and 3-ply the same? I would have thought a worsted weight yarn or a sport weight would be a closer match. Thank you for your help

    • Annie

This pattern with the Bulky yarn creates and windproof winter hat because of the thickness of the yarn. Bulky yarns can sometimes be a 3-ply yarn but not necessarily. Knitting a swatch to check your gauge is the most important thing to check.

I too thought there was a mistake and actually undid about 2 ” of knitting before I read your reply above. Obviously not patient enough! I’ll try again.

love this hat and have made it with #5 yarn exactly as the pattern says. Beautiful double rim DID magically appear. If I want to use #4 yarn, what size needles, and how many stitches would I cast on?

    • Annie

You will have to experiment with needle size to make sure you are getting the gauge indicated in the pattern. To make the hat smaller you can either use a smaller needle or change the number of stitches by 6. Wishing you success on your redesign. Annie
